Sound Matters
Something sounding not quite right with your speaker?
Main driver distorting? No high frequencies? Tinny sound? or worst case, no sound? Here at The Speaker Store, we can diagnose almost straight away what is wrong with your speaker and can advise on whether or not a replacement component is required and if so, which is the best for you. Any replacement drivers or other components can be shipped direct to our customers or they can be fitted by one of our team for a small additional cost at our Manchester store. |
Replacement Drivers
When your speaker driver blows, it cannot be repaired, resulting in some cases, a very costly replacement. As well as being able to supply you with high spec. premium branded makes of speaker, we can also supply less expensive imported units as a more cost effective solution. We stock drivers from 3", 8, 10, 12, 15, 18, 21,all the way to an Earth moving 24" used by one of the UK's finest speaker manufacturers. In some cases, depending on manufacturer and model we can provide recone kits as an alternative to a new driver, less expensive but sometimes difficult to fit. Again, one of our team can fit for an additional cost. |
High Frequency Drivers and Piezo Horns
If your speaker sounds muddy and has no clarity, it normally means that the compression driver or Piezo horn has blown. As with the bass driver, these cannot be repaired, therefore a replacement is required. Most of the 1" drivers are reasonably priced, the 2" and 3" see quite a dramatic increase in cost, however, all is not lost as replacement diaphragms are sometimes available depending on manufacturer and model number. Piezo horns are readily available and offer a more cost effective design to produce the higher frequencies, these can just screw onto the existing flare or come with flares attached or bullet type designs. |
Crossovers and Filters
Audio crossovers are a type of electronic filter circuitry used in a range of audio applications, to split up an audio signal into two or more frequency ranges, so that the signals can be sent to the drivers that are designed for the different frequency ranges. Sometimes these occasionally fail or burn out if the speaker is over driven. This can sometimes give the impression that the actual driver has blown when in fact it hasn't. Some crossovers also have built in protection in the form of small fuses or lamps that convert the excess power to light to protect the high frequency units from blowing. We can also check these for you as well. |
